New Sound in the Gainesville Music Scene: Flipturn

Gainesville has a rich culture of music with many great artists like Bo Diddley, Tom Petty, Gladys Horton and Charles Bradley starting their careers in North Central Florida. This is one of the reasons why many bands and artists come to Gainesville to perform in hopes of achieving their own stardom.

One of the latest bands that stands out from the rest is Flipturn.

Flipturn is a local Gainesville band with an indie rock/alternative style and catchy songs like “ Chicago” and “Vanilla”. Watching a performance by Flipturn can be electrifying.

We recently saw them perform at the Atlantic in downtown Gainesville.

With lead singer Dillon Basse’s impressive stage presence and the bands clearly “let’s have fun” attitude, it was impossible for the crowd to not enjoy the performance.

Flipturn formed in 2015 in Fernandina Beach, FL, when a group of high school friends started playing music together in bassist Madeline Jarman’s parent’s garage. It didn’t take long before the friends decided that they wanted to turn their garage band into something more.

In early 2016 they played their first show in Gainesville at the High Dive, and in November of 2016 placed first at the Gainesville Impact Battle of the Bands.

In March of 2018, Flipturn will perform at the Okeechobee Music Festival with big names like Khalid, Travis Scott and Halsey.

If you want to check them out before then, and enjoy some local music in Gainesville, check them out at local venues like the High Dive and The Atlantic.
