Satchel’s Pizza- A Gainesville tradition

Satchel's

Gainesville favorite, Satchel’s Pizza, offers a unique atmosphere and a variety of flavorful pizza and has been featured in Buzzfeed as one of “18 pizza joints to try before you die” (they came in at number six).

Recently, a few of us at #BTSGainesville stopped by our favorite pizza joint to enjoy a meal.

Most people eating at Satchel’s enjoy their meal inside surrounded by the work of local artists, or in their green house, or even outside in the garden area. We were lucky enough to get a table in the vintage Volkswagen minibus.

Before our meal, a few of us started with Satchel’s exclusive homemade cane sugar sodas. If you have trouble picking just one, you can try a flight of all six including Lola cola, Stevie Z zero-calorie cola, Ruby root beer, Lennie lemon-lime, Ginnie ginger ale, and Emma Lemma lemonade.

We then explored the eclectic double-sided menu.

The best way to start off a visit to Satchel’s is with the Satch salad tossed in their secret house vinaigrette. The salad comes with carrots, cucumbers, apples, and a hint of red onion.

If you stop by for lunch between 11am to 4pm, try a slice of one topping pizza and a side salad for only seven dollars.

But if you want more, all the options can make it difficult to select the right pizza for you. You can build your own pizza from more than thirty topping choices, and they have vegan options including a unique pesto sauce.

Satchel’s also has calzones and the Satch pan-pizza.

The Satch pan-pizza is Satchel’s version of a deep-dish pizza. But be careful, the Satch pan is very popular and not always available, so call ahead to reserve.

If you still have room for more after salad and pizza, don’t forget about dessert.

After our meal, our waiter handed us an old-school red ViewMaster. The classic toy has their dessert menu with images of the various desserts offered that night.

What also makes Satchel’s unique is they don’t take credit or debit cards. So remember to bring cash! If you forget, there is an ATM inside but a $1.50 fee is charged per transaction. But don’t let that stop you; the fees are donated to a different charity at the end of every month.

With so many toppings to choose from, you will want to come back again and again.
